Final Major Project: Evaluation

My project was about sports footwear advertising, I wanted to capture a lot of different sports and show the trainers used. The sports I originally wanted to photograph were:

  1. Football
  2. Tennis
  3. Running
  4. High jump
  5. Long jump
  6. Rock climbing
Sports I ended up photographing:

  1. Football
  2. Tennis
  3. Running
  4. High Jump
  5. Long Jump
  6. Javelin
  7. Hurdles
  8. Hammer throw
  9. Pole Vault

I didn't want to photograph golf because they had special shoes and not trainers. As I went to photograph the high jump I noticed they too had special shoes with spikes on so they could grip onto the floor, the same with javelin. But they were a branded shoe so I photographed them anyway to have many different shoe brands.
Halfway through my project of photographing people doing the sports I decided I wanted to  just photograph the trainers in the poses of the sports because it was much simpler. As I hadn't researched into the individual steps when I asked someone to pose for me as they would while doing the sport, the photographs looked posed but also to people who knew about the steps could tell the pose was wrong.

I was ready to give up on photographing people in action when my teacher told me about the tracking method on my camera which allows me to have the person in focus while capturing their every move. My auto focusing method was set to AF.A but for the tracking method to work I had to set my auto focus to AF.C, my shutter speed had to be alot faster than 125th and I set mine to 400 or 500 depending on the weather. I found that when I was sunny I had my shutter speed high and also my aperture, but when it was cloudy I had to turn these down and raise my ISO.
I also think I wasn't doing this right before as I had my shutter speed on 125th and they weren't sharp enough.
I'm glad I found about this tracking method because I did want to photograph people but I was frustrated that my pictures weren't good enough.

I also had decided to photograph just the trainers by themselves and for this I took my own trainers or asked the person I photographed if I could borrow theirs. My research into the step by step sports helped because I was able to position the trainers knowing I had an accurate pose.

I wanted the outcome for my photographs to be individual advertisements that would go on billboard or magazines and my video would also have been an advertisement video seen on YouTube and television.  I wanted to come up with own shop name to put for a logo onto my images but it was difficult because I wanted the name to reflect on my images that show people giving their all and dedication.
When I decided on a name for a shop I decided to Google the name I had chosen to see if I would have been able to use it.  I managed to think of a slogan before I came up with a shop name because it was easier.

For my exhibition  I decided to include the shoe boxes and trainers because from my pictures I feel it was a bit difficult to see it was an advertising project.  If I had taken my pictures like I had done in the beginning where it was just from the knee's down then maybe the message would have been conveyed that it was advertising trainers.
Overall I'm very pleased with my project because I feel I achieved what I set out to do.

Final Major Project: Final Images & Exhibiton

Setting up my exhibition space:

I originally planned to have all my photographs in the corner of the wall, but then decided not to cram them into the corner and space out on the wall next to me.

The layout of my images was a brick style with some bricks missing instead of a normal grid where they might look a bit boring because there are so many of them.
The spacing between the photographs were an inch and the spaces are A4 gaps.

Final Major Project: Logo And Printing Template

Using a website called dafont.com I narrowed down some font styles for my logo and slogan.

The font that I decided on was Prosto one.
I had come up with many names for my sports shop but finally I decided on 'Our Goal'.

Printing template:
I wanted to have a border around my images to make them look more stylish. A4 size with a 1cm border around the whole picture.
